"If there's a mother of all aviation survival kits, the Doug Ritter Ultimate Aviator Survival Pak certainly qualifies. Of the comprehensive kits, the Doug Ritter Ultimate Aviator Survival Pak is hands down the most inclusive."
       - The Aviation Consumer, March 2006 Issue

"Due to the large number of advertised aviation survival kits, rather than evaluate all that we surveyed, weíll run through ones that we liked from the high end down...Our first selection is the Ultimate Aviator Survival Pak from"
       - The Aviation Consumer, December 2021 Issue

For years pilots have been asking me to produce a commercial production version of my own Primary 2-Person Aviation Survival Kit.†Every year a number of consulting clients who appreciate the best and can afford it have had me assemble custom survival kits for their aircraft and for personal use. However, that is quite expensive. It takes hours and hours of effort to assemble one of these kits on a one-time custom basis. Now you can purchase a standardized version of these same aircraft survival kits, with all the same attention to detail and premium quality components, for a lot less.

My Doug Ritter Aviator Survival Paks were developed to provide descriminating and safety oriented pilots the very best aviation survival kit that they can bet their life on at a price that won't break the bank.

"I never take off without my Doug Ritter Aviator Survival Pak."

April 29, 2022: After a 2-year drought, caused by COVID and my inability to find someone to manufacture a small quantity of the custom packs required, I shipped out the first new batch of my Doug Ritter Aviator Survival Paks today. I am thrilled to be able to once again serve the general aviation community with my survival kits.

I will be building these kits in batches in order to keep costs down. If you need one urgently, please contact me, but be advised there will be a premium over regular cost. Actual cost will depend on my cost for the components when I next build kits because the price and availability of components is not stable as the result of supply disruption and inflation. If you would like to get on the list for the next build, probably in Fall of 2022, or if you have any questions, email me:

January 6, 2022: After many false starts I have finally got someone that I am confident will deliver an order of the custom pack I use for my Ultimate Aviator Survival Pak, recently rated by Aviation Consumer as the best. In an effort to keep costs and logistics under control, my plan would be to build them quarterly. A rush order would incur a substantial premium. Based on the proposed production schedule for the packs, I anticipate the first orders would ship in April, 2022.

In order to make this work, I will need to have deposits in hand for at least 6 of the Ultimate Aviator Survival Paks before I sign the contract for production of the packs.

UPDATED 02/06/2022: I am excited that I have received the 6 orders need to relaunch my Ultimate Aviator Survival Pak! Packs have been ordered. Based on price rises in just the last few weeks, future kits will likely cost more, but I am holding the line on the price, so this is likely the least expensive opportunity to get one of my kits. This kit was once again recently rated best by The Aviation Consumer.

And, it's not just for your aircraft. One of my 6 orders (and numerous ones in the past) is going into the trunk of the customer's vehicle.

I will start ordering components for these kits mid-January, so no time to waste. If you want one, I urge you to ORDER TODAY!

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that, assuming I am able to get the 6 orders needed to start production again, I will be able to once again offer my Doug Ritter Ultimate Aviator Survival Pak and at the same price as back in 2019, just $2,918! NO PRICE INCREASE! ORDER TODAY!

While some components have gone up in price, some significantly, a few have actually come down and buying 6 kits worth at a time ends up saving significantly as well. Shipping ate into those savings, but works out in the end.

Option: The .5 Module that adds Personal Protection gear for 1 additional person (3 total, packed in UASP) will add $285.

Option: The +2 Add-on Module, which is packed separately in a smaller commercial off the shelf pack and also includes food and water for an additional 2 people will be $800. The Plus 2 Add-on Module is designed to be used only in combination with the UASP and is not a stand-alone survival kit.

Option: Green Rescue Laser Flare replacing Red Rescue Laser: $130 ($30 reduction in price)

I have had to change some items out, some from a different manufacturer or newer model, but with a few exceptions, it doesnít change the weight or functionality. The few notable exceptions from the original at:

As there is no longer available any quality polycarbonate 3" x 5" signal mirrors, I am moving to a mil-spec glass signal mirror. It will add 4.5 ounces with packing and is obviously more fragile (though not quite as fragile as you might think). It comes in a protective pouch and will be packed to ensure that if the kit survives, it will also. On the positive side, glass is about 20% to 30% more reflective than the previous signal mirror I was using.

The original Snow Claw I have used for years has been superseded by a next generation version thatís 1.3 ounces heavier.

At this time the 2 liter Platypus Water Tanks x 2 I have used are not available and I will be using either a single 4 liter or 6 liter, depending on availability.

Color of the sil-nylon shelter will vary depending on material availability.

QuikClot Advanced Clotting Gauze 3"x24" replaces the Celox

The really nice roll-up sunglasses I used to use, that were comfortable to wear and could also be used over regular glasses, are no longer available and the alternatives in that space suck. As such, I am not planning on including sunglasses unless I get a lot of pushback and then Iíll find something that will work, but it will add to the cost, bulk and a few additional ounces.

Assuming I get my 6 orders, I will require a deposit of $2,500 with the balance due upon receipt of the packs, likely in March time-frame (always subject to COVID related delays). Shipment of the initial batch of kits will occur approximately 2-3 weeks later unless thereís a hiccup in delivery of life-limited components (rations, etc). These packs only ship via UPS Ground, insured, signature required, to the continental U.S. (local delivery in the Phoenix area a free option). S&H estimate is approximately $100.
